I have recently been on a magical trip to New York City for my 21st birthday. I went with Michael (my boyfriend) and we went over thanksgiving which I am so pleased about as it all felt so festive. We went for 6 nights and I think that was the perfect amount of time of course we could have done a lot more and didn’t want to leave but we squeezed so much into our days in the city.
We stayed in the Knickerboker Hotel in the centre of Times Square on 42nd street which is a lovely hotel very modern and the room was very spacious and so comfortable. We could sit on the window sill and watch everyone rushing through times square!
For shopping I would highly recommend Fifth Avenue there are so many shops and things to look at. I had a long list of make-up products to pick up from the American drugstores. Sephora was amazing as I’d imagined, all the staff in every store were so friendly and helpful and the hours were so good I never saw one closed. We were in New York for Black Friday but we didn’t really get many good deals I think we were a bit too late to the party as we didn’t get to the shops till about 11am. I loved going to the big department stores such as Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s & Saks Fifth Avenue I was obsessed with all the Christmas displays they all looked amazing and made me feel so christmassy.
We tried to see as much as we could of New York and we walked everywhere apart from on our last day when we visited the 9/11 Memorial which we got the subway to which was so easy and quick. Ground Zero was extremely moving and if you ever go to New York you should pay a visit, I feel very lucky to have seen it. We visited the American Museum of Natural History – Night in the museum was filmed there! I love going to museums and learning about history the museum is very big and gets extremely busy so we didn’t stay as long as we could have due to how busy it was. We went into the Planetarium while we were there which was so interesting. I absolutely loved Central Park it was so beautiful and peaceful in the middle of the crazy city not to mention the gorgeous Alice in Wonderland statue. Top of the Roc we did the top of the Rockefeller center at night as we wanted to see New York with all the lights and it did not disappoint I loved it. Times Square we saw a lot of Times Square obviously because that’s where we stayed but I loveeeee times square there is so much going on we saw Good Morning America being filmed one morning, went to M&M world (I love M&M’s) there is just always something going on there. We went into Grand Central Station as it was near the shop bath and body works which we were looking for and thought we need to see grand central while we are there. We went to a New York Knicks basket ball game in Madison Square Garden which was insane, it was so fun and the entertainment was non stop and for someone who doesn’t follow sport I really got into the game and loved it.
Food and Drink
Me and Michael were very excited for all the food we were gonna eat in New York. I loved getting random snacks around New York such as Pretzels for brunch and Godiva Strawberries. The restaurants we visited were TGI Fridays, Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees, Planet Hollywood and of course many McDonald’s. I had so many nice cocktails in all of the restaurants mentioned (apart from McDonald’s of course).
I ticked 3 things of my bucket list this holiday the 3 things were:
- To visit the Plaza Hotel – If you follow me on instagram you would have already heard about this but the film Eloise at the Plaza was my favorite childhood film and I have always wanted to see the plaza in person and go inside which I did.
- To see the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park.
- To watch the Macy’s thanksgiving Parade
I fell in love with New York City it is an amazing city and worth visiting I will definitely being going back. Hope this post helps you plan/inspires you for a trip to NYC. With Love Helena xx
